PRIVACY POLICY

Welcome to the Parenting Counts and Talaris.org websites (collectively, the “Site”).  Talaris mission is to support parents and caregivers in raising socially and emotionally healthy children. To advance its mission, Talaris has developed a research-based family of products under the Parenting Counts brand.

At Talaris and Parenting Counts, we respect the privacy of our visitors. Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we want to share our policy and the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This Privacy Policy discloses what information we gather and how we use it.

TYPE AND USES OF INFORMATION PARENTING COUNTS AND TALARIS GATHER

Information That Users Provide Through Optional, Voluntary Submissions:

Our Parenting Counts registration and online purchase forms require users to give us contact information that may include name, email address, mailing address, telephone number, credit card number and expiration date. We will use the personal identification information that you supply us to provide the products and services that you have ordered or requested, to process and ship orders, to set up your membership to Parenting Counts at parentingcounts.org, to send order and shipping confirmations, and to provide customer service. This information also may be used to contact you about sales and special offers, unless you have opted not to receive these types of promotional communications from us.

In order to use the Parenting Counts Center or make a purchase from the Parenting Counts site, you must first complete the registration form and create a user name and password.  Alternatively, you may make a Parenting Counts purchase without a registration.  During the registration process, or during the purchase process without a registration, you are required to give contact information, such as name, mailing address, and email address. We may use this information to contact you about the services on our Site in which you have expressed interest.

You have the option to provide demographic information (such as income level and gender) to us through the Parenting Counts portion of the Site; we may share aggregated information about the profiles of all users of our site with potential Parenting Counts or Talaris partners, but we will not share this information about you at an individual level.

Our Parenting Counts Center site also allows you to enter information about your child or children, such as name, age, height and weight, and upload content regarding your child or children, such as photographs.

We use information that you give us in the Parenting Counts Center portion of the Site to display relevant information and content that pertains to children of your child’s approximate age.  As you use the Parenting Counts Center portion of our Site, we may also use information from you about your children to display advertising or send emails to you about Parenting Counts products that may be of interest to you.  We only use this information to show Parenting Counts products or other products sold by Parenting Counts.  We do not use such information to show products not sold by Parenting Counts, nor do we provide such information to advertising services or marketing companies.

The Talaris.org site does not collect personal information from users, such as name, address or phone number, unless you contact us by making an inquiry or submitting a question.  If you contact us with such an inquiry or question through the Site, you may voluntarily submit information such as your name, e-mail address and mailing address.  We will use such information to respond to you.

Automatically Collected Information:

We receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with us. For example, when you visit www.ParentingCounts.org or Talaris.org, our systems automatically collect your IP address and the type of browser you use. Information may also be automatically collected through the use of “cookies”. See below for more information on IP addresses and cookies.

Usage information compiled during users’ visits will consist solely of aggregated information on a set of visitors. This aggregated information is used to better understand general site usage patterns and improve site usability. Under no circumstances does Parenting Counts or Talaris divulge any information about an individual user’s browsing activity on our Site to a third party.

Internet Protocol Address:

We collect an IP address from all visitors to our Site. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, administer our Site, analyze trends, track users’ movement, gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for us to improve the Site, and deliver customized, personalized content. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

Use of “Cookies”:

We may place a text file called a “cookie” in the browser files of your computer. A cookie saves any  preferences that you may have set up while browsing the Site personalizing your visit to our website. A cookie cannot retrieve any other data from a computer hard drive or pass on computer viruses.

The Help portion of the toolbar and/or the “Privacy” tab under Tools > Options on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether.  Making such changes may impair the functionality of our Site, however, and it may disable certain functions of the Site altogether.

Tell-A-Friend:

If a user elects to use our referral service for informing a friend about our Site, we ask them for the friend’s name and email address. Parenting Counts will automatically send the friend a one-time email inviting them to visit the Site. Parenting Counts and Talaris store this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email.

Other Websites:

Our Site contains links to other websites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are entering another website for which Talaris and Parenting Counts have no responsibility. We encourage you to read the privacy statements on all such sites as their policies may be different than ours.

Children:

You must be 18 years of age or older to subscribe to the Parenting Counts service or purchase products from Parenting Counts.  The Site, including both the Parenting Counts and Talaris.org sites, is only intended for use by individuals over age 18.  While Talaris and Parenting Counts do provide advice and content to parents regarding children and the Parenting Counts site does allow parents to store information about their children, we do not seek to collect information directly from children 13 years of age and younger nor do we knowingly collect personal information from children 13 years of age and younger.

COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE SITE

Special Offers and Updates:

If you opt in, we will occasionally send you information on products, services, special deals, promotions.  You can sign up for these emails from us on our registration page.

Out of respect for your privacy, we present the option not to receive these types of communications.  Please see the “Choice and Opt-out” section below.

Newsletters:

If you wish to subscribe to our newsletter(s), we will use your name and email address to send the newsletter to you.  Out of respect for your privacy, we provide you a way to unsubscribe.  Please see the “Choice and Opt-out” section below.

Customer Service:

Based upon the personally identifiable information you provide us through the Parenting Counts portion of the Site, we will send you a welcoming email to verify your username and password.  We will also communicate with you in response to your inquiries, to provide the services you request, and to manage your account. We will communicate with you by email or telephone, in accordance with your wishes.

SHARING YOUR INFORMATION

Third-Party Service Providers:

We employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf.  For the Parenting Counts portion of the Site, examples include fulfilling orders, delivering packages, sending postal mail and e-mail, removing repetitive information from customer lists, analyzing data, providing marketing assistance, providing search results and links (including paid listings and links), processing credit card payments, and providing customer service. They have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but we require that they agree not to use it for other purposes.

Protecting Parenting Counts and Others:

We release personal information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law (e.g., a lawful subpoena, warrant or court order); to enforce or apply our policies; to initiate, render, bill, and collect for amounts owed to us; to protect our rights or property, or to protect other users from fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful use of, our Site; or if we reasonably believe that an emergency involving immediate danger of death or serious physical injury to any person requires disclosure of communications or justifies disclosure of records without delay.

SECURITY

Parenting Counts operates secure data networks protected by industry standard firewall and password protection systems. Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced from time to time.

We reveal only a partial credit card number when confirming a Parenting Counts online shopping order. However, we do transmit the entire credit card number and expiration date (if it is provided to us) to our credit card payment processor during order processing.

Unfortunately, no security system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information and cannot assume liability for improper access to it.

It is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your password and to your computer. Be sure to sign off and close your browser when finished if using a shared computer.

YOUR CONSENT AND CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

By using this Site, you consent to the collection and use of this information by Parenting Counts and Talaris Institute. We may change our Privacy Policy from time to time.  If we decide to change our Privacy Policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.  Any changes or modification shall be effective upon posting of the revisions and notice of such changes to the Site. Your continued use of this Site following the posting of its changes or modifications shall constitute your acceptance of such changes or modifications. Therefore, you should frequently review this Privacy Policy from time-to-time to understand the terms and conditions that apply to your use of the Site.
