The central atrium space (shaded yellow) connects the researchers and
scientists to the different levels of the building. This space is the
Collaborative Zone and heart of Talaris Research Institute, where informal
gathering can take place. This zone terraces with the slope of the site
and provides the deeper spaces with natural daylight and views to the
beautiful surrounding site.

Level 1 is the Main Entry into Talaris Research Institute. The Public
Outreach, the Auditorium, the Library and other support spaces for the
researchers are all located on this level.

Level 2 is the home of the scientists and their research. Scientists who
represent several disciplines, dedicated to the study of young children's
learning development, are all located on this level. The work environment
and physical proximity of all disciplines is crucial to their collaboration
and to the fulfillment of their mission.

Level 3 is the northwest public entrance to Talaris Research Institute.
The Executive Administration and Childcare/Pre-School are located on this
level. The entrance to the building is accented with a low and inviting
one-story high canopy. The landscaped plaza roofs, exterior children's
play area, and decks integrate the natural qualities of the site with
building design and function.
